Step Your G Up! - Volume I

Every once in a while you get an NBA player, who is in the right place at the right time. But what do they do, when they get there? Do they capitalize on the opportunity? Or do they blow it off, figuring that time will come again? So here at Breakin’ Down The Game, we’ve decided some players just need to be told, to “Step Your G Up!”

Andray Blatche, Step Your G Up!

Written By Smuve J

Let me preface this by saying that I have been a lifelong Bullets/Wizards fan for my entire life! I thought long and hard about who I wanted to call out, especially since this is the first installment of, “Step Your G Up!” There’s no one I’d rather call out right now than Andray Blatche.

Before we talk about our subject, let’s recap on the Wizards thus far. I love Gilbert Arenas, but the guy is a thief, and I mean that with all due respect (zing). He just signed a $111 million dollar contract in the off-season, but decided right before the season to have knee surgery (AGAIN). Thanks again Gil for giving that $15 million discount on the signing. The Wizards have their Big 3, but for the past couple of seasons only get two of the three on the court at the same time. Caron Butler and Antwan Jamison can't carry the load by themselves, but do an admirable job attempting. The Wizards had two starting centers, and both are down for the count. This is where Blatche comes in. He is averaging 7 points and 4 rebounds per game this season in about 20 minutes per game. He is a vital defensive and offensive presence, but has yet to mature his game fully to the level of a true professional. Blatche has shown at times that he can be an exciting and talented player capable of some extremely special things. More often then not though he is inconsistent and lacks determination, not to mention focus. Andray, be a professional! You’re going to get almost $3 Million this season, to play a game, and you’re still not giving it your all. You’re in a contract year, and the two players in front of you on the depth chart both went down. Andray, STEP YOUR G UP! At one point in your life, you did play this game for free. Now, it’s your 4th season, you should not be outplayed by rookies such as Derrick Rose, O.J. Mayo and Michael Beasley. This team is going to be without Arenas for quite some time, and the Wizards are going to need your help to be successful this season. We obviously can not count on Arenas to do much except for selling various products and being eccentric. Blatche's role on the team is truly determined by his own play. Eddie Jordan must put the 5 best players on the court and while Blatche is starting five material, right now I’d rather have this chick out there instead of him.

Great title...Arenas is a crafty guy, like Stephon, doesnt use an agent and represents himself...Which leads me to who I'm gonna say "Step ur G up" to, Stephon Marbury.

Steph has no choice! He can't step it up, even if he wanted to. In fact, according to everyone, he came into camp in better shape than ever before...

Andray Blatche was a great choice. He's been given ample opportunities, and the one gripe everyone has, is that he's not even trying his best. That's wack...

I hate athletes who simply don't give effort. Hustle is a majority of the game. How many people have been in professional sports for years who have made a career simply out of hustling.

Many...that's a good question. Funny, Dennis Rodman comes to mind for me, haha.
